Hey!

Does anybody know how many different actors starred on the original "Maverick" tv show...?

I have heard that Roger Moore played Boregard? Maverick , the English cousin, for a single season.

Can anyone confirm this...?

There were four Mavericks, if you don't count the TV movies made in the 80s, or the Mel Gibson film even later than that.

James Garner was Brett Maverick and Jack Kelly was his brother Bart. The actors took turns anchoring episodes (perhaps to lighten the workload for each) in the early years of the show, but from the beginning Garner was the main attraction. When he left the show in a contract dispute, Roger stepped in as cousin Beau (educated in England!) to finish out the series. I believe Jack Kelly stayed on, and at the very end another brother showed up.

Roger is on record as not liking the job, or indeed much of what Warners gave him to do while he was under contract. Whether audiences liked him I couldn't tell you, but I suspect three things killed the show; one, it had already been on long enough for people to get tired of it, two Jim Garner was the main draw for many people and when he left so did they, and three, Roger's shows recycled plots from earlier seasons with only minor changes, giving viewers little reason to tune in.

Lord_Sinclair,

Thanks for the reply. I had seen some of this info in a book about the series.
Although I cannot locate the book these days....

According to Gareth Owen's book "Roger Moore His Films and Career", the 4th Maverick was Robert Colbert (whatever happened to him?). Many of the Maverick scripts were adjusted for one of Roger's later series The Alaskans.
